India Pics - Monkeys

We saw two types of monkeys! The most common are rhesus or "bandars" (monkey in Hindi, I understand). The other ones are langurs.

From the Field Guide: Robert L. Flemming Nature Trail (2010): "Rhesus monkeys are found throughout Mussoorie. They have become so plentiful that they are often considered a menace…they move about together in groups of two or three animals but some troops are as large as thirty. Rhesus can often be aggressive…they feed on a wide range of different foods from fruit and leaves to household rubbish" (Altar 9).

"With silver coats, graceful tails and black features, Hanuman langurs are one of the most handsome primates in India. They are often considered a sacred animal, representing the popular Hindu deity, Hanuman, and his simian army…Acorns, wild fruit, fresh leaves and roots, as well as household waste form their staple diet"n (Altar 10). Generally, it seemes like they're bigger, prettier, less common and less aggressive than the other type. Leopards like to eat them too!

March & April - Odds & Ends

Holy Week. Foot washing service at Jae & Karen's.

The big restaurant behind our complex (ours is the white 
building).Their parking lot pop music usually serenades me to sleep.

One last spring snowfall.

Visited The House of Sharing with the extended community and a visiting
Japanese group. Good to learn a bit more history.
